Trauma Informed Teaching
This course explores the principles and practices of trauma-informed teaching. Trauma Informed Teaching is an approach that takes into account the impact of trauma on students and emphasizes safety, trust, and empowerment. Participants will learn how to recognize the signs of trauma and how to create a supportive learning environment that fosters resilience, improved behaviors and increased learning.

Explore the principles of trauma-informed teaching and its role in creating a safe and supportive learning environment. Together we will define trauma and understand its impact on students. You will learn to identify the signs of trauma and recognize the prevalence of trauma among students. Then we will develop strategies for creating a trauma-informed classroom, including establishing routines, creating a positive learning environment, and promoting student engagement. You will walk away with resources that can be put to use immediately in your classrooms. But just as importantly we will take some time to focus on the importance of your own self-care and ensure you are also well supported.

- Week 1: Introduction to Trauma Informed TeachingIntroduction to Trauma-Informed Teaching3
- Week 2: Recognizing Trauma and Building TrustHow to recognize trauma and how to create environments and utilize practices that will build the trust needed to support individuals impacted by trauma.3
- Week 3: Safety & TrustWeek 3 begins a deep dive into each of the basic principles we will be focused on for the purposes of this course. Safety and trust is the principle that underpins all other principles. The intentional and strategic building of safety and trust into your classroom is the foundation of all trauma informed practices.3
- Week 4: Evidence Based PracticesIn week 4 we take a look at the research that supports the strategies we can utilize in the classroom to build resilience and self regulation in our students.7
- Week 5: PracticeThis is where we begin to really put some of what we learned into practice.3
- Week 6: Reflection and RevisionThis is an opportunity to revisit our goals, reflect on our attempts and revise where needed.2
