Let’s create actionable steps towards your SMART goal!

1. Use a Hope Map or just an outline to create multiple pathways to achieve your SMART goal. You will want a plan a, plan b and plan c.
2. Include possible obstacles and what you will do to overcome those obstacles.
3. Example: If you are limiting disruptive behaviors during transitions here are some possible plans:
4. Plan A: Create and practice routines for transitions that happen before breaks such as recess, lunch and dismissal.
5. Possible Obstacle: Those transitions are too big and students are too excited.
6. Answer: Try smaller, more manageable routines and move to Plan B.
7. Plan B: Create and practice routines for transitions that happen before in class transitions such as from group work to independent work.
8. Possible Obstacle: Students are still rowdy and don’t seem to remember the routine.
9. Answers: Possible more practice time outside of the actual transition itself. Possibly move to Plan C.
10. Plan C: Create visuals for the routines and refer to them when practicing transitions.
11. Possible Obstacle: Students are having to pay attention to the teacher too much during the process. It is still mostly teacher led, even after many practices.
12. Answers: Create individual visuals that are displayed on their desks. Maybe it can be something moveable or something they check off as they move through the steps. You could also move to Plan E.
13. Plan E: Create positive reinforcement along with visuals and practice of transition routines.
